Where was Cody for the past 12 years?

We don’t know the real back story of Cody.  We can, however, share from experience some potential scenarios.

In some cases, pets are simply stolen.  Others are found and kept, or given to somebody else, in the belief they are simply doing the right thing … providing a safe haven for a pet in need.  Then there are cases when a person keeps and doesn’t report it to their shelter for fear the pet could be put at risk of being euthanized.

In Milwaukee, pets found and turned into the shelter who are not successfully reclaimed by their rightful owner can be adopted to the finder after being been fully checked out medically and sterilized.   On their FB page, MADACC reflected “We honestly think this is a record length of time. The sad part is this dog would have been reunited with his family right away, now 12 years later he seems to have congestive heart failure, and other ailments. They lost a puppy but got an old man back.  Luckily for Cody, his family loves him no matter what. But they obviously love him and would have wanted to spend the last 12 years with him. “

Ironically, a person who independently decides to “rehome” a pet, may ultimately determine they do not care to, or be unprepared, to provide the medical care required in the pet’s senior years.

Generation Wags is delighted that Cody’s bittersweet reunion
is with a clearly grateful and loving owner indeed.

Welcome HOME Cody.
