Stanley’s Stupendous Reunion

This Monday Microchip Miracles story is provided courtesy of
AID 4 PAWS – Search and Rescue located in Canada.

This lost dog reunion story reveals some insight as to how a pet can quickly get lost, steps to take when they go missing and how the presence of a registered and updated microchip can serve as vital confirmation of pet ownership!

Here’s the post that appeared on AID 4 Paws Search & Rescue’s page!

Some stories of survival are so incredible,
they must be told & shared.

Stanley’s is one such journey, that we hope will inspire all pet parents to never give up hope, and to keep searching.

Stanley went missing on June 11, 2015, when the backyard gate blew open. His pregnant owner was at work when the unfortunate incident occurred. She got the call & immediately went searching for him. She posted him on Helping Lost Pets (HeLP), knowing it was a great resource to spread the word about him. She searched for hours, days, weeks, with little support. After some time, feeling alone, exhausted & concerned about her growing baby’s health, she stopped. It was taking a physical toll. But Stanley was always on her mind, and in her heart. She felt so lonely, and worried for him. Where could he be? Weeks & months went by, with no sightings.

In early February 2016, a dog was brought into a local groomer matted, dirty & thin. The groomer found out that the dog had been found approx 25kms away, and offered to assist in locating owner by posting him online. The finder agreed.  We noticed him, and immediately listed him on HeLP.  We urged the groomer to request that the finder report him to the local shelter, and have him scanned for a microchip.  The shelter was advised, but the dog was not checked for a microchip.  Through sharing of the original post & HeLP listing, the owner was located!! Based on his looks after grooming, and other details, there was no doubt it was Stanley. ????
The owner then called the shelter to coordinate the reunion, but they were unable to contact the finder after several attempts. At that point, police were contacted to intervene & were able to facilitate the reunion. This took an additional 3 weeks, due to circumstances. On March 2nd 2016, Stanley came in, wagging his tail. He knew where he was, home! The family is complete again. What a miracle this was!! We do not know where his journey took him, or what happened to him along the way. If only they could speak!

Note: Stanley’s microchip was the key
to confirming proof of ownership!
This proof of ownership can be vital in assuring a happy reunion!

We learned throughout this ordeal that oftentimes, people assume that a found dog looking like Stanley did, has either been abused or abandoned.

9 times out of 10, we know this is not the case! Another assumption people often make is that lost dogs cannot survive this long out in the elements, and that predators probably got them. We assure you, they CAN, and DO survive, and they become very adept at evading predators in the great majority of cases.

The main message we would like to put out there, is to spread the word on what to do if you find a lost pet:

  • report the pet immediately to local shelter
  • have the pet scanned for a microchip
  • list the pet on helpinglostpets.com
  • put flyers in your area
  • tell others about the pet

All above are part of doing “due diligence”, and are crucial steps to reuniting lost animals with their family. Listing on HeLP really makes a difference, as keeping animals (whether lost or found) in one database saves time & helps avoid confusion.

Remember to Never Give Up!! ❤️❤️
